Upon first listen, it’s obvious why the name Thought Chamber sounds a lot like Dream Theater. While there is little shred guitar, the vocals and drums are successfully modern prog, in the boringly overwrought way, and the synthesizers are specifically irritating. I love prog, but this is a band in a long line of bands which are thinking too hard about the method of their songwriting instead of expressing and supporting a resonant message. The flip side of that is that there are a lot of distinct influences and few interesting musical ideas floating around. And everything is very clean – the recording is brilliant, the instruments are untouchably in time and in tune, expertly constructed. Like the machinery of a vibrating dildo.
