Singer/Songwriter, Julie Mar, released her debut album, Theorem, April 2nd, 2013. Mar’s zeal for music began at the young age of 7 when she started piano and guitar lessons, and although her interest in singing began as a lighthearted hobby, she later pursued voice training. The raven-haired songbird began writing lyrics and poems at age 11 and her talent with text manifests itself on her debut album through poignant and gut-wrenching lyricism. The album is emotionally charged, yet hopeful. There are elements of loss, heartbreak, and self-discovery; a scrapbook of feelings and experiences everyone can relate to.
The youthful singer is unexpectedly insightful for her age, and on her single “Staircase” her varying vocal range and soulful cry match her chilling lyrics, “I’ll wait, I’ll wait, I’ll wait until I get to see you again.” There’s an honest quality within her work that is translated through the simplicity of her writing and the rawness of her voice and is immensely comforting. Mar is on the same life journey as we all are and she wants us to know we’re not alone.
Outside of her passion for music, Mar is substantially involved in humanitarian work. During the summer of 2012, she took a trip to Kenya where she devoted her time to teaching English, building homes and churches and visiting orphans. Julie has also been involved in fundraising for the Crohns & Colitis Foundation and has volunteered for the literacy group of Rockland County.
