New Video from Boston Globe-Featured Pop Noir Singer, Matthew Connor

Pop noir singer Matthew Connor announces the release of his new music video, “Midnight Blue,” from his latest album, Farewell Motel. Showcasing his signature lush instrumentation and honest songwriting, Farewell Motel puts Connor “on top for his unique vocals.” (PopMatters)

Composing before he could even write his name, Connor left his hometown of Birmingham, AL at the age of 16 to train as an opera singer at the prestigious University of North Carolina School of Arts. After spending time as the front-man for electronic dance-pop band Provocateur, Connor ventured out as a solo artist in 2011. With two successful EPs,  Ghost Town and Denouement, already under his belt, Farewell Motel puts “his deep voice front and center while the sparse, unobtrusive instrumentation  serves as a garnish for his songs of longing and regret.” (All Music)

As featured on Out Magazine, the Boston Globe, and the Boston Herald, Connor and his music video for “How Is July Already Over?” were nominated for “Music Video of the Year” by the Boston Music Awards. A “nostalgic look back at the arc of a lost love,” (Glamour) the stop-motion video, starring actor Hunter Canning, was made up of more than 4,000 black and photos shot by fashion photographer Marc McAndrews. Now, Connor hopes to further his reputation for high-production-value visual content with his haunting new video, “Midnight Blue.”
