In 2002 a really killer song hit the airwaves that had some people thinking it was just a joke, and others believing the 80’s had returned. That song was ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love.’ It was an awesome, loud and proud song with the sounds of the best of the 80’s embodied within it’s lyrics and instrumentation. The song was made by the band The Darkness, who some thought was just a myth.
The band is real, and they have a new album this year, Hot Cakes. This is the 3rd studio album by this British rock band.
I went into this review thinking I’d find another gem like ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love,’ and I can out kind of disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good album. The band still sounds fresh, and they still have their own distinct sound. It’s just that I didn’t find any of the songs as catchy as that aforementioned one.
If you like rock, and you like British rock, you’ll like this CD. If you are a fan of The Darkness, Hot Cakes won’t disappoint you. If you were in it, like me, just to find a repeat of that awesome radio hit- well, you may still like the CD and I suggest you give it a listen for yourself!
