LOS ANGELES, CA – On September 14, Los Angeles based record label Blixa Sounds, will release the 1981 album Eye Of The Storm by Chris Darrow & Max Buda, founding members of legendary American psychedelic folk and ethnic band the Kaleidoscope.
Originally released on the eclectic Takoma Records label, this will mark the first time that this classic all instrumental album has ever been issued on CD.
Eye Of The Storm features these two multi-instrumentalist virtuosos doing a variety of genres including Surf Music, Acid Rock, Funk, Caribbean and Hawaiian Music.
Darrow and Buda met in 1966 and recorded a few legendary albums with the Kaleidoscope; Side Trips (1967), A Beacon From Mars (1968) and the reunion album, When Scopes Collide (1976).
Eventually, the two of them would team up and form the Rank Strangers, whose first and only album, released in 1977, received a Grammy nomination.
After going off to do solo projects, they eventually got back together in 1981, and the result was Eye Of The Storm, a brilliant album with a stunning cover done by Rick Griffin, one of the leading designers of psychedelic posters and closely identified with his work for the Grateful Dead as well as his work with Zap Comix. Griffin died at 47 in 1991 in Petaluma, California shortly after a motorcycle accident.
The newly released CD version of Eye Of The Storm has been digitally re-mastered and comes in high-quality gatefold packaging. It also includes liner notes by Kaleidoscope aficionado Bruno Ceriotti.
Chris and Max are still living in the Los Angeles area and still play music and together, have left behind an impressive legacy of amazing music.
